Our popcorn patch at the farm has been growing great this year. Right now the ear’s are sizing up, hopefully in about a month they will be ready for harvesting.

After they are harvested they will need to dry for a few more weeks. I’m expecting that they should be some ready for popping by October. I grow two varieties of popcorn Pennsylvania Dutch Butter which is yellow and Black Dakota which is a rich mahogany color but pops white.
The pumpkins are growing well too. This year I have the pumpkins growing underneath the popcorn.

I was getting a little worried that they were not getting enough sunshine down there, and that all I would end up with is a leafy plant with no pumpkins. But the other day I spied a pumpkin the size of a football, happily growing in the shade of the corn stalks. I’m growing about 8 different varieties of pumpkins, of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
