It is hard to believe that this weekend it will be July! Many folks will be having a long weekend in celebration of the 4th of July. In between going to parties, parades, and fireworks spend some time in your garden. Remove weeds that have shown up since our recent rains, apply mulch to reduce the chance of more weeds and to help keep the soil cool during the hot summer months. Then fill in those empty spots in your garden with a few new plants.

All our bean and summer squash seedlings are just $2 each this week. We have some really fun varieties including Liana, a pole bean that grows green pods up to 23 inches long! Sometimes called yard long beans, these beans are best picked at 18 inches when they are less than pencil-width. We also have Golden Bush Scallop, a summer squash that produces golden-yellow, plump, patty-pan fruits on space-saving bush plants. It is prolific and hardy, the plants bear continuously over a long season.
We have some new seedlings this week including gourds, melons, and winter squash. Also we have some new swag! A canvas market tote bag which is made of 100% organic cotton. It is even sewn and made in the USA. This bag is perfect for throwing over the shoulder to hold all your purchases while shopping or filling with supplies for an Independence Day picnic. The graphics on the canvas tote bag is of our favorite ingredients in Spanish on one side and our Quarter Acre Farm EATS logo in black on the other side. We also have new t-shirts! These unisex green t-shirts are made of 100% organic cotton and printed locally. The front lists a few of our favorite crops in Spanish and on the back is our Quarter Acre Farm logo. For our out of town followers, we are working on adding a shipping option to our online shop for all our swag, so stay tuned.

We are gathering our supplies and making sure we have enough ingredients for this weekend’s market. We expect Saturday at the Easton farmers market to be busy and we are doing our best to estimate how much to make and what to bring so we do not run out of anything.
To help us make good estimates we appreciate when folks pre-order their favorite take-home items through our online shop which includes pico de gallo, guacamole, and ceviche. When placing your order in our online shop you are able to pick exactly what size you’d like: half pint, pint, or quart. Once your order is placed you can rest assured that whenever you show up at the market between 8am and 12:30pm your items will be waiting for you and you don’t have to stress about us being sold out of your favorites.
This week’s special will be Steak Tacos, sliced grilled steak with sauteed onions served on a corn tortilla and garnished with pico de gallo. Our ceviche will feature local Catfish. We hope to see you this Saturday!
