Summer Time

We are feeling like we are in a summer daze, the dog days of summer are here with their heat and abundant harvests. We hope you survived the heat wave and are enjoying our recent cool down.

Our tomato and tomatillo plants have been loving the weather and are producing non-stop. So we are offering a discounted bulk price if you get 10 pints of cherries or 10 pounds of heirloom tomatoes or tomatillos. It may be hot but now is the time to preserve the summer bounty for the winter using whatever method you like: canning, drying, or freezing. We will continue to have tomatoes and tomatillos until late October but the harvest will be smaller and we won’t be offering the bulk discount in the fall.

Speaking of fall, we are slowly starting to offer some fall seedlings. Right now we have leeks, onions, and celeriac available. We will continue to add new seedlings each week to our online shop.

This week’s special will be Tacos de Lengua. Tacos de Lengua is a classic Mexican dish consisting of chopped braised beef tongue tucked inside a warm corn tortilla and garnished with pico de gallo. The lengua is tender from a low-and-slow braise in liquid that transforms this odd cut of meat into a juicy, succulent treat. We finish cooking the lengua on the flat top to give it a delicious crispy, browned outer layer.

As always at the market we will also have our take home containers of pico de gallo, guacamole, and ceviche (which will be a combination of perch and rockfish this week). We hope you can swing by our booth.
