Endless Summer

It is hard to believe that it is about to be Labor Day weekend. We know that it marks the unofficial end of the summer. But at our farm the crops are not ready for summer to end. Our heat loving summer crops are basking in the sunshine and producing an endless amount of delicious produce to harvest.

In honor of tasty tomatoes we are running a special this week on pints of cherry tomatoes. If you pre-order your cherry tomatoes through our online shop they will just be $4 a pint or get 10 pints for just $37.50 and we will have them ready for you to pick up Saturday at the market. If you wait until market day to buy your cherry tomatoes they will be our normal price of $5 a pint.

We have a new garlic variety available, Northern White. This hardneck variety flavor is very strong, hot, potent garlic with easy to peel jumbo cloves. Great all-purpose garlic great for mincing, baking, and grilling. The heritage of this unique garlic can be directly traced to northern Germany. Our garlic is selling fast this year but in addition to Northern White we still have Chesnok Red, Georgian Crystal, and German Extra Hardy available.

We will be whipping up another batch of our Tomatillo Salsa this week as it is the perfect snack to eat during a holiday weekend. Our tomatillos from the field are roasted with our heirloom garlic and chopped onions. Then it is pureed with cilantro and a few hot peppers, giving it a little kick without making it too spicy.

Since we are a little obsessed with our tomatillos right now, this week’s special will be a Salsa Verde Pork Taco. We will be slow roasting a pork loin in our tomatillo salsa then serving it on a warm corn tortilla and garnishing it with cilantro and purple onion. Making for a delicious way to start your Saturday.

This weekend our ceviche will be blue catfish. If you are not familiar with blue catfish they are not bottom feeders, so they don’t get the muddy taste some catfish do. Their taste has been likened to rockfish. In the Chesapeake Bay, blue catfish are considered an invasive species. They have expanded their range and population so much that they are likely negatively affecting the Bay ecosystem because they eat so many native species, such as rockfish, blue crab, shad, herring, and Atlantic sturgeon.

We hope during this long weekend you will have time to swing by our booth in Easton at the Saturday farmers market!
