We are a little obsessed with heirloom garlic. The flavor is amazing, it just puts grocery store garlic to shame. Similarly to heirloom tomatoes there are hundreds of varieties out there, each has a slightly different flavor, with varying sizes and colors.

This season we have 7 different varieties of hardneck garlic available plus elephant garlic. One of our favorite hardnecks to grow every year is Chesnok Red. This variety has a nice full garlicky flavor with medium heat. Chesnok Red has a particularly sweet creamy taste when roasted.
A totally new (to us) variety that we grew this season is Donostia Red. This variety originated from a market in the city of Donostia, also known as San Sebastián, located in the Basque autonomous community of Spain. Like all Creole garlic types, it is from Basque Country and not Louisiana (despite the name association). Donostia Red has 8-12 crimson cloves on smallish bulbs with white wrappers. What the Creole garlic types lack in size they make up for in flavor, extra hot when eaten raw.

Right now we are running a sale on our garlic (except elephant) get one pound for just $9 that is 25% off our normal retail price. One pound may seem like a lot but our hardneck garlic can store at your home for 3 to 4 months if kept in a cool, dry, and dark place. To see our full selection of garlic and to place your order, head over to our online shop. We will be bringing lots of garlic to the Easton farmers’ market this Saturday but not all 8 varieties, so if you want a certain variety you should order it ahead of time.

We still have tons of heirloom tomatoes rolling in, so our pico de gallo is made up of a delicious mix of the 20 different varieties of heirloom tomatoes that we grow. We are often asked if there are mangos or peaches in our pico de gallo because of the bright specks of yellow throughout. But that is just our stunningly sweet yellow heirloom tomatoes. We make our pico fresh every Friday evening in a commercial kitchen. A container of it will easily last a week in your home refrigerator so we recommend getting a quart so you can enjoy it all week long until you are able to return to the farmers’ market for more!

Also at the market this weekend will be our taco special, Carnitas Taco: pork that has been slowly cooked in its own juices until it easily pulls apart, served on a warm corn tortilla and garnished with pico de gallo. We hope to see you this Saturday!
