Changing of Seasons

With the arrival of fall our seedling season is almost over, there are just 2 weeks left of us selling seedlings for this year. We always end the seedling season with a 50% off sale, which will happen at the farmers’ market on October 5th. But for you dear reader, we are giving you access to the sale one week earlier! When you go into our online shop you will find all the seedlings are marked down to just $2 each.

Don’t delay in placing your order as we have limited quantities of many of our seedlings varieties and when they are listed as sold out that is it. Our fall and winter seedlings selection includes broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, pac choi, dill, leeks, and more.

Even though fall is here we are still harvesting heirloom and cherry tomatoes and we expect to do so for another month. Though this time of year there is always a heavy pressure from various worms and caterpillars causing damage to the fruit. So we may have limited supply of large heirloom tomatoes thanks to the critters loving to take a bite out of these. As always, if you want to make sure you get what you need at the market, place your order of produce ahead of time and it will be waiting for you when you arrive at our booth.

This Saturday’s special will be, Tacos de Lengua. Tacos de Lengua is a classic Mexican dish consisting of chopped braised beef tongue served on a warm corn tortilla and garnished with pico de gallo. The lengua is tender from a low-and-slow braise in liquid that transforms this odd cut of meat into a juicy, succulent treat. We finish cooking the lengua on the flat top to give it a delicious crispy, browned outer layer. If you have never tried this but love beef we highly recommend you give it a taste.

With the changing of the season this will be our last week serving our deliciously refreshing Ceviche Tostada. Our fish ceviche, which is made of a white fish marinated in lime juice with ripe tomatoes, chopped onions, fresh cilantro, kosher salt, and black pepper, is placed on a bed of crunchy lettuce served on top of a crispy corn tortilla. We are sad to see the tostada go but we have to make room for the return of our hot soup starting October 5th.

For this Saturday’s Easton farmers’ market we are whipping up another batch of our Tomatillo Salsa aka salsa verde. We make it using our tomatillos plus hot peppers, onions, garlic, cilantro, kosher salt, and black pepper; that’s it no fillers. You can use it on just about anything. We especially like it on tacos, eggs, or just dipping tortilla chips in it. The taste of fresh salsa puts the bottled salsas to shame. No preservatives are used, so it must be kept refrigerated or can be frozen for later use. Head over to our online shop to pre-order some of our delicious Tomatillo Salsa which is available by the half pint, pint, or quart container.

We look forward to seeing you at the market!
