Week Two of Garlic Scape Season

It’s the final week of May, and Quarter Acre Farm is buzzing with flavor, green growth, and the scent of fresh garlic scape pesto in the air.

Last week, we kicked off garlic scape season, and guess what? It’s still going strong! If you didn’t grab a bunch last weekend (or already powered through the ones you did), this is your chance to stock up again before the short season slips by.

garlic scapes

We’re harvesting a fresh round of scapes this week, and they’re available for pre-order now in our online shop. Use them in stir-fries, chop them into eggs, blend them into butter, or just toss them on the grill. You know the drill garlic scapes go with everything.

And for those of you who prefer your garlic scapes transformed into something truly magical: our garlic scape pesto is here. We’re talking pints of rich, garlicky goodness made from just seven clean ingredients: organic scapes, olive oil, parmesan cheese, spinach, walnuts, kosher salt and black pepper. That’s it. No fillers, no weird stuff, just flavor.

Slather it on a sandwich. Mix it into warm pasta. Freeze a pint for a rainy day. However you use it, this is one of the best ways to savor the season.

In the Garden: Seedlings Still Going Strong

We’re keeping things green in the greenhouse and beyond. Our field is planted out with our first planting of tomatoes and tomatillos (who are loving the gentle spring rains), and we’re still sowing seeds behind the scenes so we can bring fresh seedlings to the farmers’ market well into the fall.

Looking to add something new to your garden this week?

Tomatillos are having a moment!
We have three gorgeous varieties available online right now:

  • Toma Verde – the classic green workhorse
  • Purple Blush – a sweet surprise with purple-tinged skins
  • Queen of Malinalco – long, yellow-gold fruits with an heirloom vibe

And don’t forget to check out our heirloom tomato seedlings, summer greens, herbs, flowers, and heat-loving crops like melons and peppers. All organically grown, as always.

Heat Up Your Weekend with Chicken Enchiladas

This Saturday’s ready-to-heat meal is pure comfort: Chicken Enchiladas wrapped in corn tortillas and topped with a just-right red sauce and gooey cheese.

They’re cooked fresh the day before the market, then frozen so they’re ready when you are. Whether you’re fueling up after a garden workday or need a break from cooking after a week of school lunches and work chaos, this dish has your back. Just heat it up and dinner is done.

Want to stretch it a bit? Add rice, beans, or a leafy salad and call it a feast.
