The Heat Is On, and So Are the Tomatoes

Summer has truly arrived with cherry tomatoes ripening on the vine, the scent of tacos in the air, and a heatwave reminding us to slow down, hydrate, and let the tomatoes do their thing.

🍅 Cherry Tomatoes Are Here!

We’ve been waiting (impatiently) for this moment, and now it’s official: our cherry tomatoes are ready by the pint! These juicy, candy-sweet tomatoes are showing off their summer colors, and we’ll be bringing a limited number to the Easton farmers’ market this Saturday.

These are the first harvests of the season, so supplies are limited. To make sure you get one, we highly recommend preordering through our online shop. They’re perfect for snacking, adding to pasta, tossing in a salad, or eating straight out of the container before you even make it home. (We’ve all been there.)

🌿 Nighttime Heat = Tomato Growth Spurt

If you’re wondering why the tomatoes suddenly popped, thank the hot weather! Even though the daytime temps are intense, it’s the warm nights that really get our tomato plants growing.

Tomatoes are part of the nightshade family, and they grow most vigorously in the dark. When overnight temps stay in the 70s or 80s, they go into overdrive expanding, ripening, and racing up the trellis.

We’ve been getting out early in the mornings to open the greenhouse, check the crops, and make sure everything is thriving before the midday sun slows us down. So far, things are looking great!

💧 Heat wave tip: Be like a tomato soak up the warmth when the sun goes down. Stay hydrated by drinking water, rest often, and put a fan in front of your favorite chair. You deserve it.

🍁 Look Ahead Towards Fall

We know summer just started, but now is the time to plant your fall crops. If you want pumpkins on your porch or sweet potatoes in your Thanksgiving meals, they need to go in the ground now.

These crops take 100+ days to mature, so this late June window is when you want to plant:

  • 🎃 Pumpkin seedlings
  • 🍠 Sweet potato slips
  • 🍂 Winter squash seedlings
  • 🥒 Gourd seedlings

Whether you’re filling in garden gaps or starting a fresh bed, we’ve got you covered. Visit our online shop or swing by the market to pick up plants that love hot weather and reward your patience with delicious (and decorative) fall bounty.

🍽️ This Saturday’s Take-Home Meal: Grilled Salmon

If the heat has zapped your dinner energy, let us cook for you! This week’s take-home meal is: Grilled salmon fillet with roasted broccoli and a side of pico de gallo. It’s fresh, nourishing, and made to just heat it up and dig in.

Meals are portioned to feed one person, but with the addition of some rice, salad, or crusty bread, they can easily feed two. Reserve yours through our online shop so you don’t miss out!

🌮 Taco Special: Cheeseburger Taco

Yep, you read that right. This week we’re serving up the ultimate fusion comfort food: the Cheeseburger Taco. Think seasoned ground beef, sautéed onions, melty cheese, and our perfect pico de gallo all piled onto a warm corn tortilla. It’s equal parts nostalgic and delicious. One bite and you’ll wonder why you ever needed buns.

The heat is on, but so is everything we love about this time of year tomatoes ripening in the field, tacos sizzling on the griddle, and garden beds ready for another round of planting. Whether you’re coming for cherry tomatoes, a grilled salmon dinner, or your fall garden’s next big thing, the Easton farmers’ market is the place to be. Come early, stay cool, and celebrate summer with us one tomato at a time!
