It is hard to believe that it is just the first week of July as our June weather was so hot, humid, and lacking in the rainfall department that this past month felt like peak summer instead of just the beginning. Well, thanks to a surprisingly cool weather pattern we are starting July with some delightfully pleasant days.

We are still transplanting tomatoes out in the field. I’m estimating that we need another 800 feet of tomato beds to fit the last of our plants that are patiently waiting in the greenhouse. The first planting of tomato plants has been setting fruit (thanks to those hot June nights) and we found the first ripe cherry tomatoes this week. Which means pints of cherry tomatoes should show up on our market tables in about 2 weeks give or take.

The greenhouse is still full of seedlings perfect for your summer garden. We have four types of basil including Deep Purple which has vibrant purple leaves with a rich flavor similar to that of your favorite green Italian basil. They do well both growing in the ground or in a container. We have also found the purple varieties of basil to have a bit more resistance to a light frost than traditional green varieties. Head over to our online shop to see our current offerings of seedlings which include herbs, flowers, peppers, melons, leeks, greens, and more.

This holiday weekend there will be lots of fireworks and celebrations so to help fuel you for all this fun we recommend stopping by our Easton farmers’ market booth to grab a bite to eat. A quick and delicious meal of tacos, quesadillas, or a ceviche tostada is the perfect way to start your Saturday.
To celebrate America’s Independence Day our special on Saturday will be a Cheeseburger Taco, all your favorite things about a cheeseburger but in a taco form. Ground beef with sauteed onions covered with cheese and topped with pico de gallo, all on a warm corn tortilla.
Don’t forget if you are having a party or need to feed a crowd our pico de gallo, guacamole, and ceviche are available in quart containers (32oz) when you pre-order through our online shop. Also the price point of getting a quart is better than buying two pints. So make sure you get your order in before Thursday at 8pm for Saturday pick up. We hope to see you this weekend in Easton!
