These curly, green flower buds are harvested from our hardneck garlic plants and have the same rich flavor as a garlic clove. From the Field
Out in the fields, our tomato and tomatillo seedlings love the sun but they are enjoying some cool, cloudy days and periodic rain showers. It’s been a dry spring overall, so we’re grateful for every drop! Inside the greenhouse, the work continues with lots of seed starting and potting up seedlings. As we’ll be bringing organic seedlings to market well into the fall.
Oh, and we’ve had a little help! A toad has taken up residence in the greenhouse, keeping an eye on our watering. Greenhouses attract all sorts of critters, from helpful frogs to buzzing pollinators, and we welcome them all (well, most of them … I’m looking at you cute little bunnies with big appetites).
We’ve also started mulching our tomato beds with straw to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and hold our drip irrigation in place. I believe this is one of the most important parts of tomato planting. The straw gives the beds a tidy, cozy look while also helping to set the stage for a healthy, abundant harvest.
