Even farmers need a day off. This past Sunday I decided to put a bit of distance between me and the farm work. I went down to San Francisco and spent the whole day at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, a free yearly music festival in Golden Gate Park.

The morning started with Shovels & Rope, an incredible husband and wife duo. Since the spring I have been listening to this americana folk band on repeat, I can’t get enough of them. It was awesome to see them perform live, their songs are currently the soundtrack to my farm life.

My other favorite performance of the day was Billy Bragg with his political folk music. The weather was sunning, no fog in sight, just warm and sunny from dawn till dusk.

As a farmer it’s not often that you can spend a sunny dry day relaxing in the park, as with that weather there is always so much important work to be done in the field. So as much as I enjoyed the amazing music I also took the time to delight in the chirping birds, the gentle breezes, the way the sun came through the trees, and the phenomenal hipster fashion that surrounded me.
