The warm weather has arrived and it feels like summer! Making this a perfect time to roll out our summer seedling crops. Now we know these days of reaching almost 90 degrees are just a little teaser for the coming months, but we believe the chance for a frost has passed. So it is safe to transplant heat loving, frost sensitive plants like tomatoes into your garden. As average temperatures for May on the Eastern Shore of Maryland are historically, highs in the 70’s with lows in the 50’s. These are great temperatures for both spring and summer crops.
Our greenhouse is quite full with plants and we are running out of table space for all the seedlings, which is totally normal for this time of year. This week we have the first of our tomato seedlings available but we will have more varieties becoming available in the coming weeks as some plants are just a little too small to leave our greenhouse just yet. Also if we sell out of a variety we will be able to restock them in a week or so because we do multiple plantings of our seedlings to have a steady supply.
In addition to heirloom and cherry tomato seedlings this week we also have tomatillos, flowers, dill, mint, peas, onions, leeks, greens, and more seedlings hoping to earn a space in your garden.
The farmers’ market has been hopping with a great variety of vendors and every space is full with 30 different booths. We love that folks swing by our booth for their breakfast and/ or lunch on Saturdays. By mid-morning we have been selling out of a taco choice or two, so we are bringing more ingredients so as to not disappoint folks looking forward to their favorites.
This week’s special will be our Steak Taco, sliced steak sauteed with onions served on a warm corn tortilla and garnished with pico de gallo.
We will also be whipping up bigger batches of guacamole, pico de gallo, and ceviche for you to take home to enjoy.
