Spring Seedlings and Tacos

Thanks to everyone that came out to our first farmers’ market of the 2024 season. It was great to see our regulars and get back to our “normal” Saturday morning routine of selling seedlings and slinging tacos.

The April weather has us busy in the greenhouse starting seeds and potting up seedlings. It is still very much spring, hello chilly morning temperatures, so right now we are only bringing spring seedlings to the market. This allows you to take home whatever we sell and plant it directly in your garden without having to wonder if you need to protect it from the weather or not. We will start having summer seedlings like tomatoes and basil available in the beginning of May.

This week the seedlings we have available include kale, arugula, mustard greens, peas, onions, leeks, swiss chard, dill, and mint. To see the full selection of seedlings including the variety names and descriptions head over to our online shop.

For those that came to the market this past Saturday you might have noticed a few new things. We have a new POS (point of sale) system, this fancy smart terminal allows us to take your orders more efficiently and accept a wider range of payments including digital wallets like Apple Pay. So now you can tap, swipe, or insert your payment of choice and of course we still accept cash.

We also now have high top tables to give you a comfortable place to enjoy your food. We know the Easton farmers’ market has lacked tables or even adequate benches for years. So our solution is collapsible high top tables that are at the perfect height for hanging out with a few friends as you enjoy your tacos. For now we will have them set up by the side of our booth close to where you pick up your food order.

Our special this week will be Cochinita Tacos, a Yucatan specialty. This is slow roasted pork that has been marinated in achiote and citrus while being wrapped in banana leaves. The tender pork is then served on a warm corn tortilla and garnished with pickled purple onions.

This past Saturday we sold out of our ceviche and a few sizes of our pico de gallo. So if you want to make sure you get your delicious containers of ceviche, pico de gallo, or guacamole make sure to pre-order so they will be waiting for you when you arrive at the market.

We hope to see you at the market soon. In the meantime let us know what plants you are excited to grow in your garden this season or what food items of ours you can’t wait to eat this year!
