Last week the temperatures were chilly on the farm. We had several mornings of a light frost blanketing the field. But most of our crops survived. Our cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, tomatillos, and peppers have lived to see another day. One of our goals every season is to have tomatoes until Halloween and it is looking like we might make it or get very close.

Our sweet potatoes have been cured and the first batch is ready for sale, this week we will have three varieties available; white, purple, and orange. Thanks to a bountiful sweet potato harvest this year we have tubers ranging in size from less than 7 oz to well over 32 oz. So we should have a size that works for however you like to prepare your potatoes.

Hayman is a white sweet potato with cream-colored skin and white flesh that turns slightly yellow when cooked. A traditional heirloom of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They are sweet but not overly sweet.

Purple Majesty is a purple sweet potato with all purple skin and intense purple flesh. It retains color after cooking and is naturally high in anthocyanins.

Covington is a traditional orange sweet potato with copper-rose colored skin and sweet, smooth, bright orange flesh.

Our special this Saturday will be our Roasted Tomatillo Quesadilla, we slowly roast our tomatillos with garlic and onions then this robust combination is tucked inside a delicious blend of cheeses and served in a flour tortilla.
Our soup this week will be White Bean Prosciutto. The beans and vegetables are cooked with a hunk of prosciutto creating this rich flavorful soup that is not heavy, perfect for a sunny October day. We offer our hot soup by the half pint, pint, or quart. Which you can order ahead of time. Our delicious soups are perfect for a quick lunch or part of an extravagant dinner. When making the soups we do not use any preservatives so they must be kept refrigerated or can be frozen for later use.
We are currently having some technical difficulties with our online shop so we are not able take orders through it as of this evening (Oct. 23, 2024), though we are hoping the issues will be resolved shortly. But in the meantime if you would like to place an order for produce (tomatoes, sweet peppers, tomatillos, garlic, or sweet potatoes) or prepared food (guacamole, pico de gallo, ceviche, tomatillo salsa, or hot soup) please send us an email with what you’d like and we will make sure it is available for you to pick up Saturday at the Easton farmers’ market.
