Fresh Tomatillos Are Here and All 2,000 Tomatoes Are In

Something new is landing at our booth this Saturday and we have been looking forward to it all season. After months of tending, transplanting, and watching the field come to life, all 2,000 of our tomato plants are finally in the ground, fresh tomatillos are ready for their debut, and the harvest is building beautifully. If you have been making the Easton Farmers’ Market part of your Saturday morning routine this summer, this week is one you do not want to miss.

A Milestone in the Field

This past Sunday we got the last of our tomato plants in the ground. All 2,000 of them. We do three plantings of cherry and heirloom tomatoes each season, starting in early May, again in June, and finally in July, which allows us to maintain a steady supply of field-grown tomatoes from early July all the way through Halloween. In this final planting photo (below), pretty much every row you can see is tomatoes, except for the area in the middle under green netting, which is our sweet potatoes and peanuts growing alongside them.

It has been a long road from those first seedling trays back in February to a full field of 2,000 plants, and it feels really good to be here.

New This Week: Fresh Tomatillos

We are thrilled to finally have fresh tomatillos available at the booth this Saturday. A staple of Mexican cuisine, tomatillos are wonderfully versatile and incredibly easy to cook with. Most people think of them first as the star of a classic salsa verde, and they are absolutely perfect for that, but do not stop there. Tomatillos are delicious roasted and blended into sauces, chopped fresh into salsas and relishes, and they work beautifully as an everyday vegetable too. Try them sautéed with other summer vegetables as a simple side dish, tossed into a stir-fry, or stirred into soups for a bright, tangy depth of flavor. Their tartness plays well with just about everything and adds a liveliness that is hard to replicate with anything else. Available for pre-order by the pound at quarter-acre.com/shop.

Two Heirloom Garlic Varieties This Saturday

Our Georgian Crystal is back, and as well as a second variety: Vietnamese Red. This hardneck purple stripe garlic is mild and creamy with a smooth, buttery texture and a naturally sweet finish thanks to its high sugar content. It is perfect for dishes where you want a gentle garlic presence without overpowering the other flavors, wonderful for sautéing, roasting, or anywhere you want garlic to play a supporting role. If Georgian Crystal is the bold one, Vietnamese Red is the quiet, elegant one. Both will be available at market and for pre-order at quarter-acre.com/shop.

Cherry Tomatoes: Every Saturday Through Halloween

Our certified organic cherry tomatoes are back this Saturday and will be available every week through Halloween. The mix in each pint shifts week to week as different varieties ripen in the field, so every Saturday brings something a little different.

This Week’s Special: Cheeseburger Taco

All your favorite burger flavors reimagined in taco form! Seasoned ground beef sautéed with onions, a melty layer of shredded cheese, and a dollop of our house-made pico de gallo, all served on a warm corn tortilla. Fun, satisfying, and a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

Take-Home Frozen Meal: Chicken Fajitas with Cilantro Rice

This Saturday’s ready-to-heat frozen meal is perfect for a summertime evening: sliced chicken breast with sweet peppers, onions, and garlic, served with a side of vibrant cilantro rice. Simple, fresh, and full of flavor. Pick it up at the booth, take it home, and heat it up whenever you are ready.
