Delectable Abundance

Right now we have the abundance of summer crops like tomatoes and tomatillos along with the plentifulness of fall crops like peppers and butternut squash. It is a delectable time of year.

Our sweet peppers are crispy and delicious. They are a great size for roasting, throwing on the grill, or just eating fresh. We grow several different varieties providing us with a mix of colorful peppers which could be purple, yellow, green, red, or orange.

With our tomato harvest still going strong we are having a sale on our small heirloom tomatoes. These tasty tomatoes are just $3 pounds and they are great for slicing up for a salad or cooking up into a sauce. You can reserve yours through our online shop.

Speaking of abundance we have partnered with the Maryland Food Bank to donate our excess cherry tomatoes through their gleaning program, Farm to Food Bank. So far this year we have had them out for two great evenings of harvesting, chatting, and camaraderie. The volunteers from the MD Food Bank are coming back to the farm to glean cherry tomatoes this Wednesday, September 20th at 5:30pm. If you want to join in on the fun and see our farm, you can sign up and register by following this link. If you’d like to participate in a quick farm tour with plenty of time for questions, please arrive 15 minutes early.

This week at the farmers market we will be cooking up some of our loyal customer’s favorites. Our special will be our Scrapple & Egg Taco: a slice of crispy scrapple with a fluffy scrambled egg served on a warm corn tortilla garnished with pico de gallo.

Our other constantly requested favorite is our ceviche with a mix of local perch and rockfish. Our fish ceviche is always made with a white fish marinated in lime juice with ripe tomatoes, chopped onions, fresh cilantro, kosher salt, and black pepper. This freshly made fish ceviche can be served simply with tortilla chips, crackers or alone as a refreshing salad. These favorites truly make for a delicious start to your Saturday.
