The Sweetest Sweet Potatoes

It is that time of year … our tomatoes are done for the season. They had a good run, our thousands of plants were very productive. This season’s total tomato harvest was our biggest to date, with over 3,350 pounds of heirlooms and about 1,600 pints of cherry tomatoes. But now with the cool nights our plants have just stopped producing there is barely any green fruit on any of the plants. Plus a hard frost could show up any day now.

Don’t be too sad because we have some very tasty fall crops like pumpkins and starting this week our delicious Covington sweet potatoes, which have cured and are now ready for sale. They have a thin copper-rose colored skin with sweet, smooth, bright orange flesh. We grow this variety year after year because it loves growing in our climate and it is incredibly tasty. We are wrapping up our sweet potatoes harvest this week and later on we will have other varieties available including purple ones.

We grade our sweet potatoes into sizes, so when you order through our online shop you can pick the size you’d like. The size ranges are based on an individual potato:

small – each is approximately 7 oz and under
medium – each is approximately 8 oz to 16 oz
large – each is approximately 16 oz to 32 oz

This week’s soup will be Lamb and Barley, local lamb cooked slowly to create a rich broth with seasonal vegetables and barley. Enjoy this wonderful fall soup by the pint as you walk around the Saturday market or get a quart to have with your Sunday dinner.

Our special will be our often requested Scrapple & Egg Taco. A slice of crispy scrapple with a perfectly cooked scrambled egg served on a warm corn tortilla and garnished with pico de gallo. We hope you can make it to the Easton Farmers’ Market this weekend for October’s last hurrah.
