Labor Day Vibes

Last night we had another great gleaning event at our farm. Over a dozen volunteers with the Maryland Food Bank turned out. The August heat made for a warm and sticky evening but the many hands made for light work. The cherry tomatoes were gleaned lickety-split. All the harvested tomatoes will be delivered by the Farm to Food Bank Program to local food pantries.

Right now our gleaning events are the only time we open our farm to the public. This is an excellent time to see our operation and give back to the community. We give a quick tour of our field and hang out during the gleaning to answer any and all farming/ gardening questions. We expect to do another gleaning event in September. To participate at our future gleanings or the many other gleanings around the Eastern Shore, register as a volunteer with the MD Food Bank by clicking this link to register.

The field is bursting with tomatoes and our greenhouse is still filled with wonderful seedlings. We have fabulous plants for your late summer and fall gardens including marigolds, purslane, basil, cabbage, broccoli, pac choy, leeks and more. Head over to our online shop to see our full selections and read descriptions of each variety.

It is hard to believe this weekend marks the unofficial end of the summer. But for us the summer vibes will continue for a few more months. As we expect to have a steady tomato harvest until the end of October.

We are making loads of pico de gallo and ceviche both made with our delicious heirloom tomatoes, all chopped by hand. These take home items are perfect for any celebration this weekend. To make sure you get what you need and don’t miss out on any of the tastiness, we highly recommend you order your pico, ceviche, or guacamole ahead of time through our online shop.

Our special for this weekend at the farmers’ market will be our Cheeseburger Taco, all your favorite things about a cheeseburger but in a taco form. Ground beef with sauteed onions covered with cheese and topped with pico de gallo, on a warm corn tortilla.

We hope to see you at the Easton farmers’ market this Saturday. Swing by our booth for a taco, some tomatoes, a couple seedlings, or just to say hi!
