After weeks of a trickle, this Saturday the heirloom tomatoes are finally coming in the way we have been waiting for all season. Multiple harvest bins, a beautiful range of shapes, colors, and sizes, and a special deal on small heirlooms that you will only be able to snag in person at the booth. It is going to be a good one at the Easton Farmers’ Market this Saturday, August 29th.
Heirloom Tomatoes: Abundant, Beautiful, and Worth the Trip
This Saturday we are bringing our biggest heirloom tomato haul of the season so far. After a spring drought that delayed planting and a summer battle with Colorado potato beetles, the crop is finally hitting its stride and we could not be more relieved and excited to share it with you.
Our heirloom tomatoes come in a wonderful variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, from deep purples and golden yellows to pretty pinks, and bi-colored beauties. Our regular heirloom tomatoes are priced at $6 per pound, and this Saturday we are also offering a special on small heirloom tomatoes at just $5 per pound. These small heirlooms are great for eating fresh but shine even brighter when cooked, we particularly like roasted them with our heirloom garlic and then freezing them to enjoy in the depths of winter. This small heirloom special is available at the booth only and is not available for pre-order, so plan to arrive early if you want to take advantage of it. These will go fast.
Cherry tomatoes continue to be abundant and this Saturday, we will have a mix of our 13 certified organic varieties available by the pint or as a bulk deal of 10 pints for $50. Pre-order at quarter-acre.com/shop to guarantee your pints.
Another Incredible Gleaning Evening
Monday night we welcomed another volunteer crew from the Maryland Food Bank to the farm, and once again they delivered something remarkable. In just over an hour, volunteers harvested over 250 pounds of certified organic cherry tomatoes, with some dedicated volunteers making the trip all the way across the Bay Bridge from the western shore of Maryland. That kind of commitment to community is something we do not take for granted. Thank you to everyone who came out.

Now Is the Time to Plant Your Fall Garden
We know it does not feel like fall yet, but that is actually the point. Planting now while we still have long days gives your broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, and other cool weather crops the time and light they need to mature properly. Wait until it actually feels like fall and the days will be too short for your plants to reach their full potential.
This Saturday we will have broccoli, broccolini, cabbage, lettuce, and more at the booth. That said, we are approaching the end of our seedling season and quantities are limited across all varieties. Once a crop sells out that is it for the season. If you have something specific in mind, do not wait. Place your order ahead of time at quarter-acre.com/shop. Based on current sales we expect to be sold out of most seedling varieties within the next two weeks or so.
This Week’s Special: Tacos de Lengua
A traditional Mexican taco that is bold, rich, and one of our most popular specials every time it appears on the menu. Tender beef tongue braised low and slow, then chopped and quickly grilled, served on warm corn tortillas and garnished with our fresh pico de gallo. If you have never tried lengua before, this is the perfect introduction.
