I’m starting to spend more time on the computer than in the field. At this point in the season there are less crops to harvest and maintain.
I’m spending my hours working on spreadsheets; inputting sales, expenses, and recording harvest amounts. During the height of the growing season the papers just pile up on the desk because there are too many things that have to immediately, get done in the field.
With field work slowing down there are no more “field” excuses. I can’t ignore the paper stacks weighting down the desk anymore. Its time to sit in a chair at my desk and stare into the glaze of my beloved spreadsheets. Computer work is the other side of farming that many people don’t expect or don’t see but it is incredibly important to running a successful farm, big or small.
