The calendar has flipped to October, but the farm still has a bit of summer energy. At Quarter Acre Farm our field is full of ripe tomatoes and tomatillos plus pumpkins and peppers. This Saturday our market booth will also have the first warm soup of the season and hot cocoa. If you love seasonal food, local ingredients, and easy weeknight dinners, this week’s market drop is made for you.
Pumpkins and Peppers are New to the Table
Fall arrived in the field and so did some gorgeous harvests you’ll want to see in person:
- Black Futsu pumpkins – a Japanese heirloom prized for its textured, frosted-gray rind that has hints of warm orange. The flesh is sweet and delicate, excellent roasted or in pies. Its decorative look also makes it a striking decoration.
- Hot Paper Lantern habaneros – elongated, wrinkled, scarlet red and very hot. We sell these by the piece so you can take one or a dozen depending on how much heat you need.
- Sweet peppers – a colorful mix of yellow and green, ideal for roasting, grilling, or fresh eating.
Pumpkins and peppers are available this Saturday at the Easton farmers’ market and in our online shop. Quantities are limited, so pre-order if you want to guarantee your favorites.

Soup Season Kicks Off: Chicken Vegetable on Oct 4th
October is the start of our soup season which will run until our last day of the 2025 market season on December 13th. On Saturday, October 4th, we start soup season with Chicken Vegetable: succulent chicken simmered in a rich broth with carrots, celery, and onions.
Our soups are preservative-free and sold in three sizes for take-home convenience: half pint, pint, and quart. They’re perfect for market-day lunches or an easy dinner at home. Each week we’ll rotate in a different soup flavor, so there’s always something new to look forward to.
This Week’s Taco Special: Cochinita Taco
We will be serving a Yucatán classic this Saturday!
Cochinita Taco: We slow-roast a pork butt that has been marinated in achiote and citrus while wrapped in banana leaves. This is cooked until super tender. Then the shredded pork is served on warm corn tortillas and topped with pickled purple onions for a burst of bright, tangy flavor.
If you love pork with deep, layered flavors, don’t miss this one. It’s a market staple and our chef’s favorite.
Ready-to-Heat: Veggie Fajitas with Cilantro Rice
For folks who want market flavor with minimal kitchen time, our frozen ready-to-heat meal this Saturday is Veggie Fajitas with Cilantro Rice.
Seasonal peppers, corn, onions, and garlic are seasoned and lightly sautéed, then paired with fragrant cilantro rice for a hearty, vegan-friendly meal. Each package is frozen and ready to heat up when you need it as one generous portion, and adding a side or salad can stretch it to feed two.
These meals are built for busy evenings when you still want the taste of market-fresh produce without the cooking.
Cozy Hot Cocoa: Dairy-Free and Nostalgic
Starting this Saturday we will also have our house-made hot cocoa mix that’s dairy-free but delightfully creamy. Made simply with powdered sugar, cocoa powder, coconut milk powder, cinnamon, and kosher salt, our mix is preservative-free.
At the market you can grab a steaming hot cup or pick up a bag to make cocoa at home all season long. It’s a perfect companion for fall mornings, sports games, and crisp evenings on the porch.
