The last two Saturdays at the Easton farmers’ market have been grey, rainy, and classically autumnal, and we have been out there both times along with many of our fellow vendors. Rain or shine, the market happens every Saturday, and this week we are hoping the weather cooperates as all the booths are beautifully bountiful for the fall season. We cannot wait to see you this Saturday, October 10th.
The Work in Between the Fall Harvest
October on the farm has a rhythm all its own. The tomato harvest is winding down and the sweet potato dig is still a few days away, which has given us a window to tend to some longer-term projects. This week our team spent time getting the asparagus patch ready for its winter rest: removing the ferns, weeding and shaping the beds, and laying down a thick layer of wood chips in the walkways. It is slow, satisfying work that will pay off next spring when we start harvesting asparagus spears for the first time.

We also harvested the first of our gourds this week. The variety is the Extra Long Handled Dipper gourd, and it absolutely lives up to its name as the handle or neck of the gourd stretches around three feet long. We are bringing some of the green ones to the booth this Saturday, they are decorative, and really are something to see.

Pumpkins: Beautiful to Look At, Delicious to Eat
Our heirloom pumpkin harvest is in full swing and we are bringing them to the market this Saturday. These are not your average jack-o-lantern pumpkins. Our heirloom varieties make for stunning fall decor AND incredibly delicious eating. Think rich, flavorful pies, silky soups, warming curries, and so much more. The best part? When you are done decorating with them or just get hungry looking at them, you can cook them up and enjoy every last bite. Come pick out your perfect pumpkin this Saturday.

Hot Drinks at the Booth
Nothing beats wrapping your hands around something warm on a cool fall market morning, and this season we have two wonderful options waiting for you.
Our house-made hot cocoa is back by the cup, dairy-free, creamy, and deeply chocolatey. New this year we are also pouring hot tea from Doehrn Tea Co, a wonderful fellow vendor at the Easton farmers’ market. We are serving their Watermen’s Brew, an organic Scottish breakfast tea, by the cup. Come by our booth to warm up with us.
This Week’s Soup: Chicken Vegetable
Succulent chicken simmered in a rich broth with carrots, celery, and onions. Warm, comforting, and completely gluten-free. Last Saturday we almost sold out of soup even on a slow market day, so if you know you want some plan to arrive early. Available hot by the half pint, pint, or quart.
This Week’s Special: Denver Taco
A fun play on the classic Denver Omelet. Chopped ham, sweet peppers, onions, and scrambled eggs all tucked into a warm corn tortilla. Hearty, satisfying, and the perfect market breakfast on a cool fall morning.
Take-Home Frozen Meal: Beer-Brined Pork Ribs with Roasted Broccoli
This Saturday’s ready-to-heat frozen meal is a satisfying one: pork ribs brined in beer, lime juice, salt, and black pepper, grilled to perfection and served with a side of roasted broccoli and a garnish of pico de gallo. Pick it up at the booth, take it home, and heat it up whenever you are ready.
A Tomato Update
The harvest has slowed as the season winds toward its end, but we are still picking and expect to have pints of cherry tomatoes at the booth this Saturday, some heirlooms, and possibly tomato seconds as well. Enjoy them while they last, tomato season is always one of those things you do not fully appreciate until it is gone.
We hope to see you this Saturday at the Easton Farmers’ Market, 8am to 12pm, whatever the weather brings!
